GREENWOOD

John William Wentworth Jr of Greenwood Indiana passed away February 3 at the age of 71.

John attended Whiteland Community High School and worked at Cummins in Columbus for over 42 years, retiring in 2010.

John loved to work with his hands; from working on cars and motorcycles in the garage to building a three-story treehouse in the backyard for his daughter complete with electricity and rope bridge that would rival amusement parks. He also loved to garden, priding himself on his tomatoes and zucchinis and most recently huge pumpkins that his family carved this past Halloween.

John was passionate about ancient history and civilizations, reading every book he could find on the topic. He also had a knack for remembering every joke he heard and would casually insert them into almost every conversation with family and friends.

He loved nature; camping, hiking and taking his daughter, her friends and nephews ice skating and sledding every winter.

These are heart-warming memories that will be cherished.

John is survived by his daughter Corinne Wentworth (Nick Reedy); sisters Karen (Dennis) Laakman and Mary (Sid) Olmstead; and brother Steve (Sallie) Wentworth. He is preceded in death by parents John Sr and Catherine (St. Pierre) Wentworth and brother David Wentworth.

The family will receive friends on John’s birthdate Wednesday, April 14, 2021 during a celebration of his life at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis (https://www.childrensmuseum.org/donate/donate-online) where he took his daughter and nephews almost every week when they were growing up.
