Hugh D. "Sam" Doty 90 of Franklin, IN formerly of Greenwood, IN passed away Thursday February 18, 2021 at the Indiana Masonic Home at Compass Park in Franklin, IN. He was born February 28, 1930 in White River Township, Johnson County, Indiana to Fred and Stella Jane (Henderson) Doty. He married Bernice Ann (Williams) Doty on October 15, 1950 at Bluff Creek Christian Church in Greenwood, IN, she preceded him in death on December 8, 2020. He was a 1949 graduate of Center Grove High School. He had been a school bus driver and worked in the maintenance department both at Center Grove Community School Corporation for 27 years having retired in 1986. Previously he owned and operated Hugh Doty Builders Company and had worked for Pearson Construction and Wilhelm Construction Companies in Indianapolis. He also had been the cemetery caretaker and sexton of Salem Cemetery in White River Township for over 50 years and also owned and operated a mowing service. He was a 50 year member of Bargersville Masonic Lodge 679, past Worthy Patron of the Bargersville Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Carpenters Union, the Model "A" Club in Johnson County, the Johnson County Horseshoe Club, the National Horseshoe Pitching Association, the American Horseshoe Pitching Association and enjoyed mushroom hunting, bowling, gardening, collecting coins and was an avid hunter. Survivors include his daughters Judith A. Sinn (Keith) of Mooresville, IN, Linda J. Doty (Ray Brewer) of Shelbyville, KY and Carolyn Sue Wilde (Don) of Martinsville, IN, a son Steven D. Doty (Claudia) of Mooresville, IN, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a sister Joan Van Dyke of Tuscaloosa, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters Marg Sells, Marie Graham, Beulah Anderson, Jean Whitmire, brothers Kenneth Doty, Lawrence David "Bill" Doty and Robert Doty. The Reverend Doug Lindle will conduct a service on Wednesday February 24, 2021 at 10 A.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live streamed for family and friends to connect at <a href="http://www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/hugh-doty">www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/hugh-doty</a>. Friends may call Tuesday February 23, 2021 from 4PM at the mortuary with a Masonic service at 7:30 PM conducted by the Bargersville Masonic Lodge 679.
