Police: Man punched relative, pointed gun, resisted arrest

The SWAT team was called Friday night to a Greenwood house after police say a man punched a relative and pointed a gun at someone.

Tony L. Couch Sr., 44, was arrested on charges of battery, intimidation with a firearm and resisting law enforcement.

Greenwood police responded to a report of a disturbance about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Canterbury Drive.

A woman reported she was arguing with Couch about her moving out when he punched her in the face and neck and slammed her hand in a door, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant chief of the Greenwood Police Department.

Couch then pulled a revolver on a man at the house and said he was going to kill him, Fillenwarth said.

When police arrived at the home, Couch refused to come outside. Officers stayed outside the house for an hour, and the SWAT team was called. But negotiators convinced Couch to come out of the house before SWAT arrived, he said.

Couch opened the door and said to the officers, "You ain’t handcuffing me." He proceeded to resist arrest and disobey orders. Officers got him on the ground and in handcuffs eventually, Fillenwarth said.

Couch was arrested for a similar incident in 2008, when he was convicted of battery and neglect of a dependent under the age of 14 resulting in bodily injury in Miami County Circuit Court.

Couch was taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $5,500 bond.
