LAFAYETTE
Doris (King) Gray passed away February 19, 2021 in Lafayette, Indiana. She was a former resident of Greenwood.
She was born July 28, 1926 in Johnson County to Elmer J. and Mabel (Walden) King. She married William S. (Bill) Gray on August 23, 1946.
She was a graduate of Union Township High School in 1944. After graduation she went to work in the office at Wm. H. Block Co. for 5 years. She left to be a stay-at-home mother to their 3 children. She later was employed by Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory for 35 years. Retiring in 2006, she moved to Lafayette, IN to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Doris was an avid basketball fan and loved IU.
When she was younger, she spent many hours on the lake in Brown County, fishing with her two best friends. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles, and cooking and baking for her family.
Doris will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Linda (Gray) Neal of Lafayette and Jane (Gray) McKnight (Curt) of Monticello, IN, and daughter-in-law Rhonda Gray of Brookston, IN. She will also be forever remembered by four grandchildren, Randy Featherston (Sheila) of West Lafayette, Stacey Featherston of Lafayette, Angie (Gray) Carwile (Grant) of Charleston, SC, and Julie (Burton) Whitaker and fianc? Dave Oxtoby of Lafayette. She will be fondly remembered by five great grandchildren, Tyler Featherston of Lafayette, Trevor Featherston (Haley) of Indianapolis, Kyle Steffel (John Gordon) of Plano, TX, Mollie Ping of Charleston, SC, Noah Caldwell of Lafayette, and Sierra Huck of Lafayette. She is also survived by sister Ruth (King) Rairdon of Franklin and very dear friend Jean Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Bill”, son William “Steve” Gray, brothers Verlin D. King, Merle Keith King and Loren B. King, and sister Hollis (King) Southerland.
Calling will take place from 12:00 Noon to 1:30PM, Thursday, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street. Rev. Shan Rutherford will officiate a funeral to follow at 1:30. Per Indiana State Department of Health’s mandate, all services and visitations are limited to 50 people or less. Masks are mandatory and are to be worn properly at all times. Services will also be livestreamed on her obituary tribute at www.stpierrefamilyfuneral.com.
She will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
