Thomas Errol Gunning, 81, died of COVID complications on Monday, February 15. He had been hospitalized at St. Francis since Christmas Day. Tom was a Master Mason who was active in the Directors Staff of Murat Shrine. He received his 50-year pins for the Masonic Lodge (2018), Shriners (2019) and Scottish Rite (2019). He grew up in Lansford, N.D., and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
He is survived by his sister, Susan Gunning Sausker (Bill); a blended family of seven children, Erica Gunning Madrid (Herman) of Cebolla, NM, Christian Gunning (Anna) of Los Angeles, Calif., and Sonja Gunning Nickels (Kelly Glover) of Littleton, Colo., Deborah Batty of Indianapolis, Leigh Williams of Greenwood, Beverly Johnson (Gary) of Indianapolis, and Jeff Camic (Tracy) of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Gunning, mother, Norene Tossett Gunning, and his beloved wife, Velda Elston Gunning.
Services will be scheduled later this year, when it is safe to gather, and family can travel to attend.
Arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis.
