Police: Man stopped twice in one night bit officer, resisted arrest

Police arrested an Indianapolis man early Wednesday after he resisted arrest and bit a Greenwood police officer.

Travon L. Bradley, 26, was arrested on charges of driving while suspended, resisting law enforcement and battery against a public safety official.

The Greenwood Police Department about 2 a.m. Wednesday responded to a report of a disabled vehicle on southbound U.S. 31 near Main Street in Greenwood, said Matt Fillenwarth, assistant police chief.

Bradley was sitting in the driver’s seat when the officer approached the car, which was sitting in the middle of U.S. 31. When asked to roll down his window, he refused and locked the car doors. He was shaking and looking around the car as officers tried to speak with him through the window, Fillenwarth said.

It was the second time that night Bradley had been pulled over by Greenwood police. Earlier Wednesday night, police stopped and cited him for driving while suspended, Fillenwarth said.

Officers attempted to help Bradley move his car out of the road by having him shift gears to neutral, but he would not follow the officers’ directions for steering the car, he said.

The officers tried to unlock the car doors, and eventually had to break the driver’s side window to get inside. Officers pulled Bradley through the window and onto the ground, Fillenwarth said.

Bradley kicked and kept pulling his arms away as officers tried to handcuff him. He then bit one officer on the hand, drawing blood. Soon after that, Bradley was restrained and handcuffed, he said.

Bradley was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for a medical check, then the Johnson County jail where he is held on $6,800 bond.
