Greenwood man arrested on domestic battery charge

Police arrested a Greenwood man with a lengthy criminal history after a domestic dispute Monday.

Roy P. Collier III, 33, of Greenwood, was arrested on charges of domestic battery and intimidation.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at about 7:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Pearl Street in Greenwood, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

A witness told police he saw Collier and a woman arguing in their front yard, and Collier pushed her on the ground and got on top of her, according to the Greenwood police report. When Collier got up, the witness saw the woman on the ground with a child, according to the report.

The victim ran to the witness and asked him to call the police. Officers arrested Collier at the scene, after she told them Collier shoved her on the ground, the report said.

While on their way to the Johnson County jail, Collier kept telling the officers that they were "making a mistake by arresting him," and at one point said, "you can tell me I’m sorry, because if not, I’m going to rip your throat out and let you bleed to death," the report said.

Collier is held at the jail on $100,000 bond. He has a criminal history dating back to 2004, according to court records. He has faced several charges in Johnson, Monroe and Morgan counties over the last 10 years for forgery, identity deception, possession of narcotics, theft and various traffic violations.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.
