Franciscan Health program to help seniors manage falls

A new program at Franciscan Health is intended to instill confidence in older adults who are restricting their physical activities to avoid falls.

A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to help seniors manage falls and increase activity levels, according to a Franciscan Health news release.

The next session is set for April 15 through June 3. There is a pre-class on April 8. All classes are held at Franciscan Health ESSC, 421 N. Emerson Ave., Greenwood, in Classroom 1.

Participants will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for boosting activity, make changes to reduce fall risks at home and exercise to increase strength and balance, according to the news release. The classes are open to those who are concerned with, or have experienced, falls in the past. The class may also benefit those who are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength, the news release said.

The class is free to the public, but participants must register in advance. Space is limited. To register, call (317) 528-4713, or [email protected].
