Hoosiers 30 and older eligible for vaccine

Hoosiers 30 and older are now eligible to sign up for a free COVID-19 vaccine, two days earlier than planned.

The eligibility expansion makes the vaccine available to more than 840,000 additional Hoosiers, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

On Wednesday, all Hoosiers 16 and older will be able to register for a vaccine. Between both eligibility groups gaining access to the vaccine this week, 2 million additional Hoosiers will become eligible.

Vaccine appointments are expected to extend over the next several weeks to align with expected vaccine deliveries to the state, the state health department says. State officials encourage individuals who seek an earlier appointment to look at openings in surrounding counties.

Before the expansion, individuals were already waiting three weeks or more for a vaccine, eligible county residents reported.

Hoosiers 30 and older may schedule a vaccine at ourshot.in.gov and select a location from one of more than 530 clinics around the state. Hoosiers 16 to 29 may start registering on Wednesday.

Vaccines are available at 11 sites in Johnson County: Johnson Memorial Hospital, Adult and Child Health Primary Care in Franklin, Windrose Health in Edinburgh, Sam’s Club in Greenwood and all Kroger and Walmart stores.

The vaccine is also available at three locations just north of the county line: Franciscan Health – Indianapolis, Community Hospital South and the Claybrook Commons Kroger Marketplace.

There are 16 mass vaccination clinics scheduled next month at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. About 6,000 shots per day will be given on the following days: April 1-3, April 13-18 and April 24-30. To register for those clinics, find IMS on the vaccine dashboard map or ask for vaccines in the 46222 zip code when calling 211.

For help registering, call 211 or contact one of Indiana’s Area Agencies on Aging or AARP. All locations of the Johnson County Public Library system can also help with registration.

Kroger and Meijer locations offering the vaccine appear on the clinic map at ourshot.in.gov, but individuals will be redirected to schedule through those retailers’ platforms.
