The family of a local businessman who died is honoring his legacy by collecting food for people who need it most.

Jerry Bridges died in February, leaving behind two Marco’s Pizza franchises he had opened, one in 2018 in Whiteland, and one in 2019 in Greenwood. Now, his sons have organized a food drive in his name for a local food pantry.

Throughout his life, Bridges served up more than pizza, the two brothers said.

He served communities both locally and abroad, organizing food drives and mission trips to Colombia, said Matt Bridges, who now runs the Whiteland location.

Those who donate food items by April 30 at either Marco’s location and buy a pizza will get free cheesy bread. The canned food will go to the Great Harvest Food Pantry in Greenwood, he said.

“My father was a lifelong resident of Johnson County. He was very involved and always tried to serve the community as much as he could,” Bridges said. “One thing he was passionate about was helping those in need. My brother and I figured one of the best ways we could honor him and keep him in our memory was to run a food drive.”

By continuing to give back to the community, the brothers hope they are keeping their father’s legacy alive, he said.

“It’s something special my brother and I were excited to do,” Bridges said. “At the end of the day, it’s something he would be proud of. I think his lasting legacy was all about wanting to love and serve people.”
