College notebook: Rudd a driving force for Wildcats

<p>Northwestern softball remained atop of the Big Ten standings by sweeping a four-game series with visiting Wisconsin. Junior catcher <strong>Jordyn Rudd,</strong> a former Center Grove player, went 4 for 12 at the plate against the Badgers as her team improved to 15-1.</p><p><strong>Center Grove</strong></p><p>Freshman first baseman <strong>Lexi Fair</strong> helped Southern Indiana softball defeat Quincy, 9-1, in five innings by scoring two of her team’s runs. Fair had three hits, including a double, in a 10-7 loss to Truman State; she singled and drove in a run in a 10-1 win.</p><p>Wittenberg’s <strong>Clara Andersen</strong> had an RBI single in a 3-1 softball loss at Mount St. Joseph. The Tigers won the second game, 9-4, as Andersen singled, scored a run and had a sacrifice fly.</p><p>Senior outfielder <strong>Hanna Burris</strong> had a double and scored a run as UIndy softball blanked Illinois-Springfield, 10-0. Burris singled in a 7-0 win in the second game of the doubleheader and singled in the second game of a two-game sweep of Quincy.</p><p>Sophomore <strong>Jackson Young</strong> pitched five innings of relief, allowing four hits for Franklin College baseball in a 12-9 win over Earlham. He had a sacrifice fly in a 15-5 loss at Bluffton, while pitcher <strong>Chris Foote</strong> struck out eight batters and walked three in four innings of relief.</p><p>Alabama freshman <strong>Bryce Eblin</strong> pitched the final inning in an 11-6 baseball loss to Mississippi.</p><p>Indiana Wesleyan baseball took three of four games against Bethel with senior <strong>Tye Thixton</strong> totaling six hits and scoring six runs. Teammate <strong>Nick Coy</strong> shined in the opener with a hit, two RBI and three runs scored.</p><p>Freshman <strong>Ashley Eck</strong> had 23 digs and three service aces for Indiana State volleyball in a loss to Missouri State. ISU lost the second match to Missouri State as Eck had 10 digs and three assists and teammate <strong>Jamie Brown</strong> three kills.</p><p>The Rose-Hulman football team lost at Hanover, 27-24. Junior defensive back <strong>Riley Roberts</strong> had six tackles for the Fightin’ Engineers.</p><p>Taylor linebacker <strong>Sam Bolin</strong> finished with six tackles and carried the ball once for a four-yard gain in a 23-0 loss to Indiana Wesleyan.</p><p>Cincinnati golfer <strong>Sam Jean</strong> carded a three-round total of 219 (+3) as the Bearcats won the 13-team Craft Farms Intercollegiate in Gulf Shores, Alabama.</p><p><strong>Whiteland</strong></p><p>Anderson baseball player <strong>Branton Sanders</strong> homered and scored two runs as the Ravens won at Defiance, 6-5. Anderson split a doubleheader with Manchester, with Sanders singling and scoring a run in the opener, a 10-6 loss.</p><p>Franklin College senior <strong>Tyler Robinson</strong> picked up the win in the baseball team’s 9-1 win at Bluffton in the second game of a doubleheader, pitching the first six frames, allowing five hits and striking out seven. <strong>Trevor Spilker</strong> worked the final 1 1/3 innings of a 15-5 loss to Bluffton in the first game.</p><p>Indiana Wesleyan senior <strong>Danielle Munn</strong> pitched the final 1 2/3 innings in a 6-2 win over Spring Arbor and threw a no-hitter in an 8-0 victory over Huntington, permitting a walk and striking out five.</p><p>Freshman <strong>Zach Ricketts</strong> played for the Franklin College men’s golf ‘B’ team at the Great Lakes Invitational in Lebanon, shooting an 84-88—172 to tie for 59th individually.</p><p><strong>Franklin</strong></p><p>Taylor sophomore golfer <strong>Javan Johnson</strong> secured medalist honors at the Garn Championships in Lexington, Kentucky, with a score of 69-76—145. Former Grizzly Cubs teammate <strong>Matt Jordan</strong>, now playing for Vincennes, tied for fifth with a 77-80—157.</p><p>Franklin College outfielder <strong>Jacob Heuchan</strong> singled twice in a 12-9 victory over Earlham, and produced a total of two RBI as the Grizzlies split a doubleheader at Bluffton.</p><p>Rose-Hulman defensive back <strong>Tyce Miller</strong> had six tackles and broke up two passes as the football team lost, 27-24, at Hanover.</p><p><strong>Greenwood</strong></p><p>UIndy softball player <strong>Lexi Rees</strong> homered and singled in a 10-0 rout of Illinois-Springfield. Rees singled in the second game of the doubleheader, a 7-0 triumph, and contributed three hits in a two-game sweep of Quincy.</p><p>Wabash College won the DePauw track and field invitational as junior <strong>Ethan Pine</strong> took fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:04.77.</p><p><strong>Reid Werner</strong> pitched six-hit baseball in seven innings to pick up the win for UIndy in an 8-4 victory at Wayne State. The senior struck out four and didn’t issue any walks.</p><p>Taylor baseball player <strong>T.J. Bass</strong> had three hits in a 7-6 win at Huntington in 11 innings.</p><p>Freshman <strong>Maecee Terhune</strong> won her match at No. 2 doubles and lost at the top singles spot as Franklin College women’s tennis downed Principia, 5-4.</p><p><strong>Alyssa Stilley</strong> finished with seven kills for the Roosevelt volleyball team in a loss to Trinity International and four kills in a loss to IU South Bend.</p><p><strong>Indian Creek</strong></p><p>UIndy pitcher <strong>Wyatt Phillips</strong> took the loss in the baseball team’s 8-7 10-inning loss at Wayne State. The redshirt freshman worked two-thirds of an inning in relief.</p><p><strong>Roncalli</strong></p><p>Indiana freshman softball pitcher <strong>Amber Linton</strong> pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief in a 7-1 loss to Michigan. The Franklin resident gave up six hits in 5 2/3 innings of relief in an 8-1 loss to the Wolverines and four innings of four-hit ball in a 4-0 setback.</p><p>DePauw golfer and Greenwood resident <strong>Kathleen Ameis</strong> shot 86-89—175 as the Tigers finished second in the 12-team Miami Whitewater Classic in Harrison, Ohio.</p>
