Two arrested on high-level drug charges

Police arrested an out-of-county man and woman early Friday after police found 12.5 grams of meth in their car during a Greenwood traffic stop.

Christina Rose Baker, 31, of Greenfield, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine — a Level 4 Felony — possession of a hypodermic syringe, driving while suspended with a prior conviction and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Richard Raymond Farmer, 34, of New Palestine, was also arrested on a possession of methamphetamine charge.

About 1:30 a.m. Friday, a Greenwood police officer was patrolling on U.S. 31 near Main Street when a white SUV with a temporary license plate pulled out in front of him. He ran the plate, which came back belonging to Baker, who had a prior conviction and a suspended license, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

The officer pulled up next to the vehicle and identified Baker as the driver. She was driving below the speed limit, and her behavior showed signs of impairment, the officer said.

The officer initiated a traffic stop at U.S. 31 and Carr Street. As Baker pulled over, Farmer, the passenger, threw what appeared to be a cigarette box out the window, according to the report.

The officer asked Baker and Farmer what was thrown out the window, and both denied disposing of anything, the report said.

The officer called for backup and searched the highway. He found the cigarette box with a clear plastic bag containing a large amount of meth, according to the report.

A K-9 conducted an air sniff around the vehicle at the scene, and determined there were narcotics inside, the report said. Police found a syringe in Baker’s bag. Officers also found another syringe on her during a search, the report said.

Baker and Farmer both told police none of the drugs or paraphernalia that were found belonged to them.

Both were arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. Baker is held on $9,800 bond, and Farmer is held on $6,600 bond.
