James "Jerry" G. Elliot

James G. ‘Jerry’ Elliot, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, April 2, 2021 at University Heights Health & Living Community in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood.

Jerry was born February 23, 1933 in Foster, Indiana to his parents, the late James A. and Verda Belle (Kyger) Elliot. He was a 1950 graduate of Maroa High School in Decatur, Illinois and went on to serve as a Private with the United States Army during the Korean War. Jerry was accepted into the Officer Candidate School and was discharged in 1956 as a 1st Lieutenant at the Artillery OCS in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After returning, Jerry earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1960 from Washington University in St. Louis.

Jerry retired in 1991 from Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis, where he worked in the Purchasing Department for over 31 years. He was a member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church. Jerry was the past president of The National Elliot Clan Society USA, the Elliot Clan Society in Scotland and the Indianapolis Scottish Society. He enjoyed serving as a Scout Leader, Little League Coach and on the Parent Teachers Association. Jerry also enjoyed fishing and was a fan of the Indianapolis Colts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Lee (Crain) Elliot, whom he married on September 1, 1956 in St. Louis, MO. Jerry is also survived by his sons, James G. ‘Jim’ (Jackie) Elliot Jr. and Jeffrey C. (Kelli Andersen) Elliot, both of Indianapolis; sister, Judith Ann Fox of Humble, Texas; grandchildren, Anthony B. (Rachel) Elliot of Santa Cruz, CA, Zachary P. (Amanda) Elliot of Indianapolis, Andrew J. (Nick McNeely) Elliot of Indianapolis and Anna Beth (Sean) Murphy of Boulder, CO and Hope Elliot of Indianapolis; great grandchildren, Harry and Olivia Elliot of Santa Cruz, CA, Jack and Charlotte Elliot of Indianapolis and Ivan and Wyatt Murphy of Boulder, CO.

The Rev. Ann Spahr will conduct a graveside service on Friday at 11 a.m. at the State Line Masonic Cemetery in Covington, Indiana. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Meredith- Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry St. in Morgantown. Military rites will be presented by the Martinsville American Legion & Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guards at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
