Grizzly Cubs edge Lancers

Izzy Harrison hit a two-run homer and pitched three innings of scoreless relief to help lift Franklin to a 6-5 comeback win over visiting Edinburgh on Monday.

Lexi Couch had the game-winning RBI for the Grizzly Cubs (1-0) in the bottom of the seventh inning when her bases-loaded line drive allowed Maddie Hedges to score.

Corin Dammeier had three of Franklin’s 10 hits, while Hedges added two. MacKenzie Bieker had two RBIs for the Lancers (1-2).

Woodmen defeat Braves

Taylor Dick was the winning pitcher and hit a three-run homer to left, her first varsity blast, as host Greenwood topped Indian Creek, 8-4, in the season opener for both teams.

Courtney Hankenhoff was 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the Woodmen. 

Baseball

Cougars fall in opener

Greenwood Christian started its season with a 15-0 loss to Decatur Central on Monday. Jake Potter and Jake Simons had hits for the Cougars.

Girls tennis

Woodmen swept by Royals

Greenwood opened its season with a 5-0 loss to Roncalli on Monday. Claire Wagner, Rebecca Zakrowski and Lili Wisler won the singles points for the Royals. Cambri Lux and Bridget Hymann were victorious at No. 1 doubles, and Elsie Kerr and Katrina Gangstad won in the second spot.
