College notebook: Thixton goes wild against Marian

<p>Indiana Wesleyan senior <strong>Tye Thixton</strong> was 9 for 18 with two doubles, a homer and 11 runs batted in as the Wildcats took three of four games against Marian. The Center Grove alumnus had seven RBIs in the series finale, an 11-7 win. Teammate <strong>Nick Coy</strong> scored three runs and drove in one over the weekend.</p><p><strong>Center Grove</strong></p><p>At the Louisville Invitational, <strong>Kiyah Yeast</strong> won the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.92 seconds and was runner-up in the 100 (11.76) for the host Cardinals.</p><p><strong>Jordyn Rudd</strong> was 8 for 16 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored as Northwestern softball took three of four games against Maryland.</p><p>University of Indianapolis softball player <strong>Hanna Burris</strong> scored two runs and drove in one during a doubleheader sweep at Missouri-St. Louis.</p><p><strong>Lexi Fair</strong> was 2 for 3 in a Southern Indiana softball loss to UIndy and drove in a run during another loss to McKendree.</p><p>Wittenberg outfielder <strong>Clara Andersen</strong> scored a run and drove in another during a twinbill sweep of Anderson. She also went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs in a 9-7 win at Ohio Wesleyan.</p><p><strong>Will Smithey</strong> had three hits and five RBIs as the UIndy baseball team took three of four games from Maryville. <strong>Josh Johnson</strong> worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in one of those contests, a 6-4 Greyhounds win.</p><p><strong>Jackson Young</strong> drove in a run for Franklin College baseball during a 9-8 win over Hanover.</p><p>Cincinnati golfer <strong>Sam Jean</strong> placed 14th individually with a three-round score of 77-73-74—224 at the Hoosier Collegiate Invite in Bloomington. The Bearcats placed fifth as a team.</p><p>Freshman <strong>MJ Hammill</strong> and the Wisconsin volleyball team are the top overall seed going into the NCAA tournament. The unbeaten Badgers received a first-round bye and will play Bowling Green or Weber State in the second round on Thursday.</p><p><strong>Whiteland</strong></p><p>Anderson senior <strong>Branton Sanders</strong> tortured Mount St. Joseph pitchers during a doubleheader sweep, going 4 for 8 with two doubles, two home runs, five runs scored and six RBIs. He then went 3 for 3 with three runs, two walks and a two-run homer in the Ravens’ 11-9 extra-inning win over Manchester.</p><p>Indiana Wesleyan pitcher <strong>Danielle Munn</strong> tossed two innings of scoreless relief in a 5-0 win over Grace, allowing one hit, but took her first loss of the spring in a 3-1 setback against Mt. Vernon Nazarene. <strong>Maddy Margraf</strong> singled in her lone at-bats during victories over Grace, Mt. Vernon Nazarene and St. Francis, driving in a run against the Cougars.</p><p><strong>Franklin</strong></p><p>Sophomore <strong>Emilie Hill</strong> scored her first career goal, heading in a corner kick to lift Evansville to a 1-0 women’s soccer win over Loyola Chicago.</p><p><strong>Jacob Heuchan</strong> was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs in Franklin College’s 9-8 baseball victory over Hanover.</p><p>Freshman pinch runner <strong>Emma Rutan</strong> scored the winning run in UIndy’s 2-1 softball victory at Southern Indiana.</p><p>Rose-Hulman defensive back <strong>Tyce Miller</strong> had three tackles and two pass breakups in a 34-14 home win over Franklin College. <strong>Riley Roberts</strong> also made three stops.</p><p>Taylor men’s golfer <strong>Javan Johnson</strong> was fourth individually with a 70-75—145 as the Trojans finished third at the Purgatory Intercollegiate.</p><p><strong>Greenwood</strong></p><p>Franklin College sophomore <strong>Nick Patton</strong> won the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Hanover Invitational, crossing the line in 16.35 seconds.</p><p><strong>T.J. Bass</strong> drove in eight runs during Taylor’s four-game baseball sweep of Grace, with a three-run homer and two RBI doubles among his five hits in the series.</p><p>Junior <strong>Damon Maynard</strong> was 4 for 10 with two runs and an RBI as USC Upstate baseball took two of three in a weekend series at Radford.</p><p>Reid Werner earned a complete-game win in UIndy’s 5-2 baseball win over Maryville, scattering six hits and two walks while striking out eight.</p><p><strong>Edinburgh</strong></p><p><strong>Taylor Tatlock</strong> won the javelin at the Hanover Invitational for Franklin College with a throw of 34.65 meters and was third in the discus (33.09 meters). Both efforts were personal bests.</p>
