Greenwood man charged with rape

A woman told police a Greenwood man raped her, beat her and dragged her from his apartment by her hair.

Dante Hines, 22, is charged with rape, a Level 3 felony, sexual battery, a Level 6 felony, and misdemeanor intimidation. Police arrested him Tuesday.

Police responded about 1 a.m. April 2 to the 700 block of Loews Blvd. They met with the victim outside the apartment where she says she was raped, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Thursday in Johnson County Circuit Court.

The victim told police when she arrived at the apartment, they immediately went into Hines’s bedroom where he told her to take off her clothes. She told him no, but he forced her onto his bed, took off her clothes and raped her, according to court documents.

She told police when he was done, he told her to leave. She reached for her sweater and he smacked her across the face, pulled her hair and put his hands around her throat, court documents said.

He started a video chat with a friend and said he was going to kill her, the victim told police.

Hines then dragged her out of the apartment by her hair. She tried to call 911, but he threw her phone on the concrete, causing the screen to crack. He started breaking off pieces of wood from the bottom and side of the front door and throwing them at her, according to court documents.

Cameras captured Hines dragging the victim out of the apartment, and a witness substantiated some the victim’s claims, according to court documents.

The victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital where she told detectives Sunday morning she knew Hines but never had a sexual relationship with him. She told detectives he is “a big dude” and “there was no way anybody can fight that,” but that she had told him no repeatedly, court documents said.

In an interview with detectives, Hines said the victim asked him to stop but he didn’t. He was taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $18,400 bond.
