Douglas Gene Howlett

GREENWOOD, IN.

Douglas Gene Howlett, age 78, of Greenwood, IN peacefully went home to be with his Lord & Savior in the early morning hours of April 8, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. He entered this life on March 2, 1943 at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA to the late Charles P. & Mildred (Roberts) Howlett.

He married the love of his life Mary Jane (Stark) Howlett on December 14, 1985 at Community Church of Greenwood, she survives. They brought out the best in each other & knew that God brought them together.

He was a 1961 graduate of Knightstown High School & after putting himself through night school achieved his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from IUPUI in 1980. He was a Marine Reservist & retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in Indianapolis in 1995 as a Programmer after twenty-five years.

He was one of the founding member of Stones Crossing church & served his Lord faithfully. He had been a part of several Missions Trips & his life exemplified his love for The Lord.

Doug’s life pleasures included reading his Bible, praying for others, IU Sports, listening to 50’s & 60’s music, admiring classic cars, & being a military man he was always intrigued to learn more about the World Wars. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He is now at peace, he fought the good fight, he was a faithful servant!

Doug was respected for his generosity, humility, & kindness. . .a man of great character! He leaves to mourn his passing; his loving wife Mary Jane of Greenwood, daughter, Nicole Paquette (Michael) of New Palestine, step-daughter, Beth Meyer (John), Greenwood, two grandchildren, Grace “Douglas” Paquette & Cooper Paquette, New Palestine. Three step-grandchildren, Clay Baker (Jordyn), Indianapolis, Alec Cunningham (Alexa) New Palestine, Sydney Meyer, Indianapolis, & three step-great-grandchildren. He has several nieces & nephews. . .all of whom will miss him dearly. Doug is preceded in death by his loving parents, one sister Mary C. Howlett, two brothers Timothy L. Howlett & Charles R. Howlett (Sara). One step-daughter Laura Sue Cunningham.

Pastors Scott Luck and David Joseph will conduct a service on Saturday April 17, 2021 at 5PM at Stones Crossing Church 7000 West Stones Crossing Road in Greenwood, IN where friends may call from 1:30 PM until service time at the church. The service will be live-streamed for family and friends to connect at live.stonescrossing.com. Facial coverings or mask and social distancing is requested for those attending. A graveside service will be on Monday April 19, 2021 at 10AM at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenwood, IN.
