Shirley Jean Austin

FRANKLIN

Shirley Jean Austin, 82 of Franklin entered the gates of heaven early Friday morning, April 9, 2021.

She was born on January 25, 1939 in Bowling Green, KY to the late Ernest and Mary (Bell) Snell. She graduated from Warren County High School in Bowling Green, KY in 1956 and married her high school sweetheart Denton “Denny” A. Austin on September 1, 1956.

She was a past member of the Indianapolis Baptist Temple and First Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Franklin.

Shirley retired from Endress+Hauser where she worked as a Secretary for 15 years.

She had a passion for hand-quilting and made over 60 quilts. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed gardening and puzzles. Shirley was considered to be a “Second Mom” to many of her children’s friends as they were growing up.

Shirley is survived by her husband Denton A. Austin, daughter Tonya (Bob) Humbard of Bloomington, sons Rick (Joni) Austin and Kenneth (Birgit) Austin of Franklin, Denny (Tammy) Austin of Avon, and her sister Teresa (Woody) Lanham of Bowling Green, KY. Shirley had 7 grandchildren (Derek, Kevin, Kylie, Craig, Nicole, Jessica, Zachary) and 9 great-grandchildren with another one on the way.

Visitation will be at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 N. Morton St. (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin on Friday, April 16th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 17th from 10:00 am to Noon. A memorial service will be held from noon to 12:30 on Saturday followed by the burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin. Facial coverings or masks are recommended.
