Trojans cruise to victory against Bears

Home runs from Mitchell Evans and Garrison Barile helped Center Grove cruise past Lawrence Central, 11-1, on Wednesday. Evans, Barile and Caden Curry each had two RBIs in support of winning pitcher Jacob Wilson, who struck out seven and allowed just one hit for the Trojans (7-2, 3-0 MIC).

Franklin takes first league loss

Host Perry Meridian got out in front early and held on for a 7-5 win over Franklin. Logan Devenport was 3 for 3 in a losing effort for the Grizzly Cubs (6-3, 3-1 Mid-State), while Max Clark had two hits and scored twice.

Warriors topped by Plainfield

Whiteland suffered a 4-1 loss at Plainfield. Nick Dwenger had an RBI triple for the Warriors (3-4, 2-2 Mid-State).

Woodmen blanked by Artesians

Martinsville’s Kevin Reed struck out 13 while firing a no-hitter to hand Greenwood a 10-0 road loss.

Softball

Warriors hammer Quakers on field

Jordan Smith and winning pitcher Debbie Hill each drove in three runs to power Whiteland to a 13-1 win at Plainfield. Josslynn Harbert and Halle Nett added two RBIs apiece for the Warriors (3-3, 3-1 Mid-State), while Smith and Emma Piercy had three hits each.

Grizzly Cubs outslug Falcons

Izzy Harrison went 3 for 4 with a home run and also struck out 15 in five innings pitched to lead Franklin to a 16-9 win at Perry Meridian. Corin Dammeier also had three hits for the Grizzly Cubs (4-1, 3-1 Mid-State).

Woodmen come up short

Greenwood couldn’t quite keep pace in a slugfest at Martinsville, taking a 12-7 loss. Anna Pritchett and Samantha Garrett each had three hits for the Woodmen (3-3, 1-3 Mid-State), with Garrett and Katelyn Berger driving in two runs apiece.

Trojans march past Plainfield

Third-ranked Center Grove shot a sizzling 3-under-par 137 to beat Plainfield by 36 strokes at Hickory Stick on Wednesday. Sam Hord paced the Trojans with a 33, while Austin Shelley fired a 34 and both Sam Slaughter and Drew Rowen posted rounds of 35.

Woodmen outshoot Pioneers

Greenwood coasted past Mooresville, 169-206, at Heartland Crossing. Jackson Watkins was the medalist with a 39, followed by Eli Poe with a 42 and Ethan Baugh and Conner Chase with rounds of 44.

Girls tennis

Trojans top Bulldogs

A sweep of the singles points by Ashlee Fisk, Sonya Vyas and Deepthi Shankar helped No. 11 Center Grove to a 4-1 victory at 10th-ranked Brownsburg on Wednesday. Hudson Gilstorf and Lauren Dick added a win at second doubles for the Trojans.

Woodmen sweep Falcons

Greenwood blanked Perry Meridian, 5-0, with Sophia Davidson, Marisa Linville and Meri Yusef claiming the singles matches. Maggie Boyce and Brooklyn Hanson were winners at first doubles, while Ava Stein and Savannah McCauley were victorious at No. 2 for the Woodmen (2-2).

Warriors defeat Cardinals

Whiteland was a 4-1 winner over visiting Southport. Sarah Scott and Sara Ullrich earned victories at first and third singles for the Warriors (4-1, 1-1 Mid-State), Natalie Cloer and Molly Brosnan won at first doubles and Kaylee Hoagland and Lauren Trimble rolled at second doubles.

Miscellany

IHSAA finalizes state finals moves

The IHSAA, which moved the state finals for softball and track and field away from Purdue and Indiana University, respectively, when the schools said spectators would not be allowed at events this spring, officially announced new sites for both on Wednesday.

Center Grove will be hosting the four state softball championship games on June 11 and 12 at its complex behind Center Grove Elementary School. The boys, girls and Unified track and field state meets will all be contested June 4 and 5 at Ben Davis.
