College notebook: Jordan medalist at Hoosier Heartland event

<p><strong>Matt Jordan</strong> won medalist honors for Vincennes men’s golf at the Hoosier Heartland D3 Challenge at Otter Creek in Columbus. The Franklin product shot a three-round score of 1-under-par 215.</p><p><strong>Franklin</strong></p><p>Taylor golfer <strong>Javan Johnson</strong> fired a 77-71—148 to help his team to the championship of the eight-team Pilot Spring Invitational in South Bend.</p><p>Franklin College outfielder <strong>Jacob Heuchan</strong> singled and scored a run in a 12-8 win over Manchester. He singled in a 7-6 10-inning win at Defiance.</p><p><strong>Jake Zachary</strong> helped the Franklin College No. 2 doubles team win in the Grizzlies’ 6-1 victory over Ohio Christian.</p><p>DePauw men’s tennis player <strong>Noah Roberts</strong> helped the Tigers defeat Wabash, 8-1, winning his matches at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.</p><p>Goshen men’s volleyball player <strong>Andy Bennett</strong> helped lead his team to a 15-9 record this season. The junior middle blocker led the Maple Leafs in blocks with 73 and was fourth in kills with 92.</p><p><strong>Whiteland</strong></p><p>Anderson’s <strong>Branton Sanders</strong> was selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after going 7 for 11 at the plate with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored.</p><p>Earlham pitcher <strong>Nick Carrizales</strong> upped his record to 4-0 on the season, working the first six innings for his team in a 5-2 win over Mount St. Joseph. Carrizales allowed three hits and struck out four.</p><p><strong>Luke Helton</strong> improved his pitching record to 3-1 in Morehead State’s 12-1 win over Austin Peay. The sophomore pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and one run and striking out seven.</p><p>Indiana Wesleyan’s <strong>Danielle Munn</strong> pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of her team’s 8-1 loss to Taylor. She got the start in a 6-5 win over Goshen, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and striking out five.</p><p><strong>Center Grove</strong></p><p>Indiana Wesleyan’s <strong>Nick Coy</strong> drove in five runs in a 15-3 defeat of Taylor, delivering a home run and two singles. Teammate <strong>Tye Thixton</strong> homered, singled and scored two of the Wildcats’ runs. Thixton singled in the second game of the doubleheader, a 12-2 loss. IWU scored two more wins against Taylor, with Thixton providing a total of three hits and Coy two.</p><p>UIndy catcher <strong>Will Smithey</strong> had two singles and a steal in a 12-7 win over Missouri-St. Louis, then singled and scored a run in an 8-5 loss.</p><p>Wisconsin first baseman <strong>Abby Herbst</strong> singled, doubled and drove in three runs as the Badgers defeated Iowa, 7-1, in the first of a four-game series.</p><p>Northwestern softball lost four games against Minnesota as catcher <strong>Jordyn Rudd</strong> delivered a total of five hits for the Wildcats, including a home run.</p><p>Southern Indiana first baseman <strong>Lexi Fair</strong> singled twice and scored a run in a 3-1 win at Rockhurst. She doubled and singled two more times in the Eagles’ 14-4 victory over William Jewell in the opener of a doubleheader.</p><p><strong>Hanna Burris</strong> drove in a run and scored one in UIndy’s 8-0 victory against William Jewell. She had a total of four singles in a doubleheader sweep of Truman.</p><p><strong>Ethan Shepherd</strong> helped the Indiana men’s golf team place fifth our of 16 teams at the Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue, carding a 54-hole total of 221 to tie for 33rd individually. Cincinnati took 14th overall, with junior <strong>Sam Jean</strong> tied for 41st (223).</p><p><strong>Greenwood</strong></p><p>UIndy’s <strong>Lexy Rees</strong> singled, doubled and drove in two runs in the softball team’s 8-0 win over William Jewell in the opener of a doubleheader. She delivered a single and two more RBIs in a 3-0 triumph in the nightcap. In the Greyhounds’ sweep of a twinbill against Truman, Rees contributed three singles and a homer.</p><p>Taylor outfielder <strong>T.J. Bass</strong> homered, singled twice and scored three runs in a 12-2 win against Indiana Wesleyan to salvage a split in the doubleheader.</p><p>IU East runner <strong>Julia Arruda</strong> competed in the NAIA cross country national championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, placing 275th in a time of 21 minutes, 11.02 seconds.</p><p>Wabash College runner <strong>Ethan Pine</strong> won the 1,500-meter run in 4:02.74 as the Little Giants hosted the Huntsman Family outdoor track and field invitational.</p><p>Franklin College hurdler <strong>Nick Patton</strong> placed third in the 110-meter event at the Manchester Invitational, clocking a time of 16.57 seconds. He ran a personal-best 12.06 in the 100-meter dash.</p><p><strong>Maecee Terhune</strong> picked up singles and doubles wins for Franklin College women’s tennis in a 7-2 win over Manchester. Junior <strong>Maddie Bright</strong> won at the No. 1 singles and doubles spots in a 9-0 win over Ohio Christian.</p><p><strong>Indian Creek</strong></p><p>Howard College pitcher <strong>Dustin Sprong</strong> threw three scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts as the Hawks defeated Texas Western, 10-7.</p><p>Purdue outfielder <strong>Kasey Wilhoit</strong> singled and scored her team’s lone run in a 4-1 softball loss to Indiana. She delivered two doubles in the team’s 7-5 loss to the Hoosiers.</p><p>Franklin College junior <strong>Addie Rund</strong> scored victories in both singles and doubles competition against Manchester and Ohio Christian.</p><p><strong>Roncalli</strong></p><p>Indiana pitcher <strong>Amber Linton,</strong> a Franklin resident, worked the final two frames for the Hoosiers in a 4-3 loss at Purdue, allowing two hits and a run. The freshman then improved to 4-1 on the season in IU’s 7-5 win over the Boilermakers, pitching the final two innings.</p>
