College notebook: Jordan medalist at Hoosier Heartland event

Matt Jordan won medalist honors for Vincennes men’s golf at the Hoosier Heartland D3 Challenge at Otter Creek in Columbus. The Franklin product shot a three-round score of 1-under-par 215.

Franklin

Taylor golfer Javan Johnson fired a 77-71—148 to help his team to the championship of the eight-team Pilot Spring Invitational in South Bend.

Franklin College outfielder Jacob Heuchan singled and scored a run in a 12-8 win over Manchester. He singled in a 7-6 10-inning win at Defiance.

Jake Zachary helped the Franklin College No. 2 doubles team win in the Grizzlies’ 6-1 victory over Ohio Christian.

DePauw men’s tennis player Noah Roberts helped the Tigers defeat Wabash, 8-1, winning his matches at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Goshen men’s volleyball player Andy Bennett helped lead his team to a 15-9 record this season. The junior middle blocker led the Maple Leafs in blocks with 73 and was fourth in kills with 92.

Whiteland

Anderson’s Branton Sanders was selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week after going 7 for 11 at the plate with two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored.

Earlham pitcher Nick Carrizales upped his record to 4-0 on the season, working the first six innings for his team in a 5-2 win over Mount St. Joseph. Carrizales allowed three hits and struck out four.

Luke Helton improved his pitching record to 3-1 in Morehead State’s 12-1 win over Austin Peay. The sophomore pitched five innings, allowing seven hits and one run and striking out seven.

Indiana Wesleyan’s Danielle Munn pitched the final 2 1/3 innings of her team’s 8-1 loss to Taylor. She got the start in a 6-5 win over Goshen, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and striking out five.

Center Grove

Indiana Wesleyan’s Nick Coy drove in five runs in a 15-3 defeat of Taylor, delivering a home run and two singles. Teammate Tye Thixton homered, singled and scored two of the Wildcats’ runs. Thixton singled in the second game of the doubleheader, a 12-2 loss. IWU scored two more wins against Taylor, with Thixton providing a total of three hits and Coy two.

UIndy catcher Will Smithey had two singles and a steal in a 12-7 win over Missouri-St. Louis, then singled and scored a run in an 8-5 loss.

Wisconsin first baseman Abby Herbst singled, doubled and drove in three runs as the Badgers defeated Iowa, 7-1, in the first of a four-game series.

Northwestern softball lost four games against Minnesota as catcher Jordyn Rudd delivered a total of five hits for the Wildcats, including a home run.

Southern Indiana first baseman Lexi Fair singled twice and scored a run in a 3-1 win at Rockhurst. She doubled and singled two more times in the Eagles’ 14-4 victory over William Jewell in the opener of a doubleheader.

Hanna Burris drove in a run and scored one in UIndy’s 8-0 victory against William Jewell. She had a total of four singles in a doubleheader sweep of Truman.

Ethan Shepherd helped the Indiana men’s golf team place fifth our of 16 teams at the Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue, carding a 54-hole total of 221 to tie for 33rd individually. Cincinnati took 14th overall, with junior Sam Jean tied for 41st (223).

Greenwood

UIndy’s Lexy Rees singled, doubled and drove in two runs in the softball team’s 8-0 win over William Jewell in the opener of a doubleheader. She delivered a single and two more RBIs in a 3-0 triumph in the nightcap. In the Greyhounds’ sweep of a twinbill against Truman, Rees contributed three singles and a homer.

Taylor outfielder T.J. Bass homered, singled twice and scored three runs in a 12-2 win against Indiana Wesleyan to salvage a split in the doubleheader.

IU East runner Julia Arruda competed in the NAIA cross country national championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, placing 275th in a time of 21 minutes, 11.02 seconds.

Wabash College runner Ethan Pine won the 1,500-meter run in 4:02.74 as the Little Giants hosted the Huntsman Family outdoor track and field invitational.

Franklin College hurdler Nick Patton placed third in the 110-meter event at the Manchester Invitational, clocking a time of 16.57 seconds. He ran a personal-best 12.06 in the 100-meter dash.

Maecee Terhune picked up singles and doubles wins for Franklin College women’s tennis in a 7-2 win over Manchester. Junior Maddie Bright won at the No. 1 singles and doubles spots in a 9-0 win over Ohio Christian.

Indian Creek

Howard College pitcher Dustin Sprong threw three scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts as the Hawks defeated Texas Western, 10-7.

Purdue outfielder Kasey Wilhoit singled and scored her team’s lone run in a 4-1 softball loss to Indiana. She delivered two doubles in the team’s 7-5 loss to the Hoosiers.

Franklin College junior Addie Rund scored victories in both singles and doubles competition against Manchester and Ohio Christian.

Roncalli

Indiana pitcher Amber Linton, a Franklin resident, worked the final two frames for the Hoosiers in a 4-3 loss at Purdue, allowing two hits and a run. The freshman then improved to 4-1 on the season in IU’s 7-5 win over the Boilermakers, pitching the final two innings.
