Warriors claim tourney crown
Whiteland won the championship at the Warren Central Invitational in convincing fashion, beating the host team 15-1 and then rolling past Franklin, 15-0, in the title game.
Jordan Smith was the driving force for the Warriors (5-3) in the final with three home runs, including a grand slam, and eight runs batted in. Smith totaled seven hits on the day, while Halle Nett and Macy Cornelius drove in five and four runs, respectively. Debbie Hill pitched a four-hit shutout against Franklin.
Trojans sweep Kingsmen
Center Grove took both ends of its annual doubleheader with Class 4A No. 11 Penn, winning by scores of 6-1 and 5-3. Alexis Rudd hit a three-run homer and was the winning pitcher in the opener for the sixth-ranked Trojans (11-2), while Sydney McConnell and Jazi Cangany each had an RBI in the nightcap.

Cougars split doubleheader
Micah Vessely, Colton Flint and Garrett Wright each had a pair of hits and three RBIs as Greenwood Christian crushed Monrovia, 23-1, to earn a split of the teams’ two games on Saturday. Charlie Overton knocked in three runs and Flint two more in the opener, a 10-8 loss.
Girls tennis
Grizzly Cubs top Artesians
Franklin swept past Martinsville on Saturday, 5-0. The Grizzly Cubs got singles wins from Rylie Wilkison, Kennedy Urban and Sarah Smith as well as doubles points from the teams of Haylie Rayl and Chelsie Rayl (No. 1) and Haley Haldeman and Emma Sappenfield (No. 2).
Trojans fall to Greyhounds
No. 11 Center Grove got a three-set victory from Ashlee Fisk at first singles but suffered a 4-1 defeat against second-ranked Carmel.
Boys golf
Host Trojans win tournament
Center Grove’s Red and White teams finished 1-2 in the Trojan Classic at Hickory Stick on Saturday, posting team scores of 290 and 315. The winners were paced by Sam Slaughter (70), Luke Beetz (71) and Sam Hord (72).
Franklin was third in the 10-team field with a 315 behind Damon Dickey’s 76 and Ian McCullough’s 77.
Braves take second in tourney
Indian Creek finished second in an eight-team tourney field at Edgewood. Braxton Christie (79) and Clark Haywood (81) led the way for the Braves.
Warriors finish 10th
Whiteland was 10th in the 13-team field at the Jennings County Invitational. Will Davis shot a 76 for the Warriors to place fourth on the individual leaderboard.
Track and field
Center Grove boys win title
Paced by four event wins, Center Grove placed first overall at the Ben Davis Relays on Saturday. Brandon Wheat and Drew Wheat ran on three victorious relays (4×100, 4×200, 4×400), with Micah Coyle and Connor Delp each joining in on two of those wins and Clay Stambaugh and Zach Greller each contributing to one. The pole vault duo of Conner Burries and Amat Singh was also a winner.
Trojan girls third at HSE
Center Grove placed third of eight teams in the Royal Relays at Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday. Makensie Kramer was first in the 300 hurdles, Ella Rasche and Shelby Wingler teamed to win both the shot put and discus, and Taylor Jarosinsnki and Mara Burdine won the pole vault.

Baseball splits with Engineers
Ryan Bixler and Tysen Lipscomb each went deep as Franklin College topped Rose-Hulman, 12-10, to split a Saturday twinbill after the Engineers took the opener, 4-3. Bixler and Lipscomb had four RBIs each in the win, while Jacob Heuchan knocked in three for the Grizzlies (13-6).
Softball manages twinbill split
Franklin College bounced back from an opening-game loss to close a doubleheader with a 10-3 win over Bluffton. Shelby Crockett and Makayla Plymale each went 5 for 5 in the nightcap for the Grizzlies (11-7, 2-2 HCAC), with Plymale hitting a home run.
Men’s tennis pulls out victory
Franklin College took four of five singles points to rally for a 5-4 victory against Manchester. Jake Zachary and Matt Leming teamed up for a doubles win before both claiming singles points, and Ty McCory and Cooper Davis each added individual victories.
