Jerry McKinney

INDIANAPOLIS

Jerry McKinney, 89, of Indianapolis, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 18th, 2021, while surrounded by his loved ones. Jerry was born on October 16, 1931 to Louvedia (Younger) and George McKinney in Indianapolis, Indiana along with his twin and best friend Jimmie McKinney. Jerry grew up with six siblings. Family has always been very important to Jerry. As a teenager, Jerry excelled at boxing. He boxed as an amateur for five years.

Jerry would marry, Melba Jean McKinney, a girl he was head over heals about on April 27, 1951 in Indianapolis. They went on to have three precious daughters that they adored, Brenda, Marita, and Alicia. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Jerry began working in the freight business, continuing to move his way up the ladder. He would retire in 1996 from ANR as a region line haul manager. Jerry was also very active in local politics in the Greenwood area. In his free time, Jerry loved to spend time with his family, fish, garden, and feed his birds.

One of Jerry’s biggest loves was that of the Lord. He was a spiritual leader to the members of his family and to everyone he met. He was a member of Smith Valley Baptist Church for decades.

Jerry joins his wife, Melba Jean McKinney, four brothers: Russell McKinney, George McKinney, John McKinney and his twin, Jimmie McKinney, two sisters: Patty McMillan and Barbara Riley, mother, Louvedia McKinney, and father, George McKinney in heaven. He is survived by his three daughters: Brenda Sears (Randy) of Morgantown, Indiana, Marita Fosnow (Robert) of Colchester, Illinois, Alicia Richards (Greg) of Plymouth, Illinois. He leaves behind seven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild arriving in August. His “baby doll”, Mariam Hanscom, who he spent the last ten years making wonderful memories with, also survives him.

Funeral services for Jerry are Friday, April 23 at 11:00 AM at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Greenwood Chapel. Visitation is Thursday, April 22 from 4-8:00 PM at the funeral home, with one additional hour of calling prior to the service on Friday.
