Mother, son arrested in Franklin drug raid

A Franklin mother and son were arrested on drug charges after a Thursday drug raid at Pennington Mobile Home Park.

Robert D. Wood, 27, was arrested on felony charges of dealing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor charges of operating while intoxicated, possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and visiting a common nuisance.

Sherri A. Wood, 62, was arrested on a felony charge of maintaining a common nuisance, and misdemeanor charges of possession of paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.

Franklin police began surveilling the area near the Wood family’s trailer in the 3000 block of N. Morton Street early on Thursday morning.

They observed Robert Wood leave home for the liquor store multiple times after consuming three shots of whiskey, according to a Franklin Police Department report.

Robert Wood was pulled over about 11:30 a.m. on the final trip to the liquor store and arrested for driving while intoxicated, according to the report.

Simultaneously, Franklin police’s SWAT team served a search warrant at the family’s trailer. The SWAT team requested that Robert Wood’s mother, Sherri Wood, come out but she did not respond, the report said.

Police entered the home, brought Sherri Wood outside and placed her under arrest. She then cooperated with the investigation, according to the report.

Sherri Wood showed police the room where both she and her son sleep and the area where their possessions are kept. A bag of synthetic marijuana weighing 14 grams and paraphernalia were found with her possessions. With Robert Wood’s possessions, police found a large bag of synthetic marijuana weighing 29 grams, smaller bags containing a white powder substance, a digital scale and several smoking pipes, the report said.

During the traffic stop, Robert Wood was uncooperative with police. He wouldn’t consent to a breathalyzer test, lunged at an officer, and yelled and called them names, according to the report.

Robert Wood has a criminal history which include convictions for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and battery, according to online court records.

This is the second time in three years the SWAT team has visited the Woods’ trailer.

While serving a warrant in Nov. 2019 for a March 2019 battery incident, Wood hid from police and tried to escape. SWAT officers tear gassed him to prevent him from escaping through a crawl space.

Both were taken to the Johnson County jail. Sherri Wood was released on $3,000 bond. Robert Wood is being held on $36,900 bond.
