College notebook: Johnson helps Taylor golf win title

<p>Former Franklin player <strong>Javan Johnson</strong> helped Taylor men’s golf win its fifth consecutive Crossroads League title, placing fourth individually with a three-round score of 223 to secure a spot on the all-tournament team.</p><p><strong>Franklin</strong></p><p>Junior <strong>Logan Snyder</strong> scored dominant wins at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles as Concordia (Wisconsin) men’s tennis recorded 9-0 shutouts of both Dominican and Lakeland.</p><p><strong>Jacob Heuchan</strong> produced two singles, three runs, two RBI and a stolen base for Franklin College baseball in its three games against Transylvania.</p><p><strong>Eli Cochrane</strong> was part of Franklin College’s 4×400 relay effort that finished fourth at the Rose-Hulman Twilight meet in 3:39.24.</p><p><strong>Center Grove</strong></p><p>Indiana Wesleyan baseball claimed the Crossroads League regular-season title by downing Grace College in three of four games. Leadoff hitter <strong>Tye Thixton</strong> proved huge for the Wildcats with two doubles, two home runs and six runs scored in the series. Teammate <strong>Nick Coy</strong> did his part with five hits and three runs scored.</p><p>Butler shortstop <strong>A.J. Poynter</strong> had two singles and scored a run in the Bulldogs’ 11-3 victory over Villanova.</p><p>Pinch hitter <strong>Jackson Young</strong> singled and drove in a run for Franklin College in a 20-6 loss at Transylvania.</p><p>Morehead State freshman pitcher <strong>Grant Herron</strong> struck out four in his 2 1/3 innings of relief in a 9-5 loss to Jacksonville State.</p><p><strong>Abby Herbst</strong> did her part with totals of three hits, two RBIs and a run scored as Wisconsin softball won three of four games at Nebraska.</p><p>Wittenberg outfielder <strong>Clara Andersen</strong> had a single in both games as the team swept a softball doubleheader at Ohio Wesleyan.</p><p>Southern Indiana first baseman <strong>Lexi Fair</strong> doubled and had a sacrifice fly to lead the Eagles past Maryville, 3-2. She had a single and scored a run in a doubleheader sweep of Missouri S&amp;amp;T.</p><p>Northwestern catcher <strong>Jordyn Rudd</strong> had a total of five hits, including a double and home run, to go along with five RBIs as the Wildcats softball squad lost three of four games at Michigan.</p><p>Indiana men’s golf placed seventh out of 17 teams at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. Senior <strong>Ethan Shepherd</strong> tied for 13th individually with a three-round score of 216.</p><p>The University of Indianapolis football program capped its abbreviated season with a 46-29 win over Truman in the Great Lakes Valley Conference title game. Senior safety <strong>Connor Steeb</strong> had seven tackles and broke up three passes for the Greyhounds.</p><p><strong>Greenwood</strong></p><p>Franklin College sophomore <strong>Nick Patton</strong> established two personal bests at the Rose-Hulman Twilight track and field meet, running a 15.97-second time in the 110 hurdles and 1:03.40 in the 400 hurdles. Patton was also part of the third-place 4×100 relay. Fellow FC soph <strong>Janae Johnson</strong> took eighth in both the women’s hurdles events, including a new personal standard of 1:23.04 in the 400 hurdles.</p><p>Wabash College junior <strong>Ethan Pine</strong> had a personal-best 800-meter time of 1:56.09 to place third at the Big Blue track and field Open at Millikan University.</p><p>UIndy senior <strong>Reid Werner</strong> pitched a complete game in a 5-1 win over McKendree, allowing seven hits and striking out five.</p><p>Taylor baseball was swept in a four-game series against St. Francis, though Trojans first baseman <strong>T.J. Bass</strong> had two hits and three RBIs in the opener, an 8-7 loss.</p><p>Catcher <strong>Lexy Rees</strong> had a two-run double for UIndy softball in 3-2 victory at Drury in nine innings. The Greyhounds then swept a twinbill at Missouri S&amp;amp;T with Rees chipping in a total of four hits and driving in three runs.</p><p><strong>Whiteland</strong></p><p>Senior <strong>Danielle Munn</strong> pitched the first four innings, giving up three hits, to get the win as Indiana Wesleyan softball defeated St. Francis, 7-1. Munn pitched three hitless innings in an 11-3 victory against Grace College.</p><p>The Franklin College softball squad won five of six games with <strong>Addison Csiskos</strong> contributing a pair of singles and pitcher <strong>Delanie Gourley</strong> running her record to 8-4 with complete-game victories over Washington (Missouri) and Anderson.</p><p>Morehead State sophomore <strong>Luke Helton</strong> pitched the first three innings of his team’s 9-5 loss to Jacksonville State, allowing four hits and two runs.</p><p><strong>Greenwood Christian</strong></p><p><strong>Krae Sparks</strong> closed out Franklin College’s 15-14 win over Transylvania, picking up the win with two hits allowed and three strikeouts in three innings of relief.</p><p><strong>Indian Creek</strong></p><p>Franklin College senior <strong>Hunter Fields</strong> placed second in the hammer throw at the Rose-Hulman Twilight meet with a personal best of 41.87 meters. Fields was sixth in the shot put and seventh in the javelin throw.</p><p>UIndy runner <strong>Shae Biddle</strong> set a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:19.91 at the Strive for Greatness Invite.</p><p>Howard College (Texas) pitcher <strong>Dustin Sprong</strong> closed out a win against Frank Phillips College, giving up a hit and striking out three in two innings.</p><p>Junior outfielder <strong>Kasey Wilhoit</strong> had a single, double and two runs scored as Purdue softball split a four-game series at Michigan State.</p>
