Juvenile detainee leads police on chase at college

A juvenile detainee led police on a foot chase Friday across the Franklin College campus after he fled a group working on a community service project at a nearby park.

The teen boy was working on a community service project at Province Park, across State Street from the college, when he abruptly ran away about 1:45 p.m., said Sgt. Joe Parsley, of the Franklin Police Department.

The juvenile evaded his supervisor and ran out of the park toward Franklin College, Parsley said.

Franklin police and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies captured the juvenile near Old Main on the campus without incident, he said.

He was back in custody at the juvenile justice center by 2:30 p.m., Parsley said.
