Police: Greenwood man battered woman, tried to steal car

A man was arrested after police say he attempted to steal a car and pushed a woman.

Nicholas R. Bostic, 29, of Greenwood, was arrested on charges of robbery, domestic battery and possession of marijuana.

A woman called the Greenwood Police Department just before 4 a.m. Sunday to report that Bostic, who lived with her, was trying to take her car.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Bostic putting items into a car, according to a Greenwood Police Department report. Bostic saw the officers and began walking away back to the apartment.

An officer stopped him, and told him to stay with the other officers outside while he went into the apartment. The officer went into the apartment and spoke to the woman who reported the incident, according to the report.

She said Bostic was leaving, and she locked the door behind him. He came back, kicked in the door and fought with her to get the keys to her car. He pushed her onto the floor and grabbed the keys from her, the report said.

Bostic refused to speak with police at the scene. He was placed in handcuffs and searched. Officers found the car keys and 1.5 grams of marijuana, according to the report.

Bostic has a previous conviction of driving while intoxicated and endangering a person in Marion County. He is also wanted in Lake County for a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, according to online court records.

He was taken to the Johnson County jail, where he is held on $5,500 bond.
