GREENWOOD
Marilyn Sue (Bemis) Saunders, 78, and longtime resident of Greenwood, IN passed away on Sunday April 25, 2021 in her new residence in The Villages, FL. Marilyn was born September 3, 1942 to Ralph and Norma (Woodruff) Bemis, and had one brother, Mark Bemis. She had graduated from Center Grove High school in 1960.
Marilyn was Church Secretary at University Heights Christian Church in Indianapolis for over ten years. She had retired from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield after twenty-five years. She had been co-owner of Mooresville Furniture, with her husband John Saunders in the 70’s. Marilyn was a vey proud 13-year Breast Cancer Survivor.
Survivors include her children Jeffrey Saunders (Carol Adinamis) of Carmel, IN and Kathy Nall (Kelly) of Louisville, Ky and six grandchildren, Elizabeth Saunders, Catherine Saunders and Alexander Saunders all of Indianapolis, IN, Shelby Matthew Upchurch, of Greensboro, NC and Alexandrea and Logan Nall, of Louisville, KY. In addition she leaves nephew Mark Bemis (Sarah and family) and niece Andrea Lockhart (Stephen and family), her cousins Pat Clark (Ron and family) and Billie Bedwell (and family) and so many dear friends.
Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her Grandchildren, scrapbooking and playing bingo! She was active with University Heights Christian Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, the Greenwood VFW 5864 Auxiliary, her Center Grove Classmates and most recently was beginning to explore Florida with John. She cherished the many friends she has kept in contact with over her lifetime.
Visitation will be at University Heights Christian Church, 4050 Shelby St, Indianapolis, IN 46227, on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 1:30, with a Celebration of Life Service, lead by Minister Steve Kehrer, beginning at 2:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to breast cancer research, or to the Greenwood VFW Auxiliary.
