Braves clipped

Edgewood used a three-run seventh inning to break free from a determined young Indian Creek team to secure a 6-2 victory in Class 3A baseball sectional action Wednesday at Owen Valley.

The Braves finish their season with an 8-14 record.

“We competed, gave them our best,” Things just didn’t go our way toward the end.”

Indian Creek had the bases loaded with nobody out in the first inning but got just one run out of it on a passed ball. The Braves scored again on a passed ball in the fifth to tie the game, but the Mustangs regained the lead with two out in the sixth before adding some insurance in the final frame, also all with two outs.

Sophomore Nolan Ankney went the distance in defeat for Indian Creek, striking out eight.

“The future’s bright,” Mirizzi said. “We really started making strides there toward the end of the season. … We never gave up; we kept showing up and trying to get better.”
