Man arrested on attempted murder charge after Greenwood shooting

A man was arrested Monday morning after police say he shot a neighbor in the chest.

Xavier L. Arnold, 21, of Indianapolis, was arrested on a charge of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony.

Greenwood police responded about 10:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a person shot in the 800 block of Alice Lane in Greenwood, according to a Greenwood Police Department news release.

Police learned a 24-year-old man had been shot during a civil dispute with a neighbor, later identified as Arnold. A friend was transporting the victim to the hospital when police and paramedics intercepted them to provide emergency care, according to the news release.

The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported by ambulance to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he underwent emergency surgery, the news release said.

He was in stable condition Tuesday morning, police said.

Arnold was arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail where he is held on $80,000 bond.

Greenwood police and the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating, and formal charges had not been filed Tuesday.
