JCCF seeking mural designs

The Johnson County Community Foundation invites local artists, emerging artists, art students and creative community members to submit mural designs for the Color the County Mural Program’s 2021 selected location in Greenwood.

This year’s mural will be located at McCarty Mulch and Stone Inc., 100 Bluffdale Road.

“What started as a hobby turned into a full-time ‘mulch farm’ on an old five-acre dairy farm at the corner of State Road 37 and Olive Branch Road that Josh McCarty’s dad owned,” a Johnson County Community Foundation news release said. “The dairy’s old silo is still visible today. The McCarty family consists of six generations of Johnson County farmers and is deeply rooted in the history of Johnson County agriculture.”

The mural program joins artists or aspiring artists and communities through the collaborative process of mural making to create powerful artworks that can transform public spaces, neighborhood identities and individual lives, according to the news release.

The selected designer will join forces with the foundation to implement the mural. Design criteria includes artistic quality, strength of concept, originality, uniqueness, appropriateness for our time and historical context of the location, the news release said.
