Driver taken to hospital, road closed after dump truck overturns

A man was injured and taken to an Indianapolis hospital after the dump truck he was driving overturned on a country road in Bargersville.

The Bargersville Community Fire Department, Bargersville Police and the Johnson County Sherriff’s office responded to a report of an overturned dump truck at 12:48 p.m. on County Road 575 W.

The truck left the road and rolled over, crushing the cabin where the driver was seated, said Mike Pruitt, deputy chief of the Bargersville Fire Department. The driver got out of the truck before first responders arrived, and remained conscious and aware talking to medics at the scene, Pruitt said.

He was taken by ambulance to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He is in stable condition.

When the truck overturned, all the dirt in the back spilled out, covering the entire road. 575 W., between County roads 100 N and 150 N, are closed while crews from the fire department and county highway department worked to clean up the mess.

The sheriff’s office will investigate the cause of the accident, which has not yet been determined, he said.
