Franklin man one of two killed in weekend flight school crash

A Franklin man was one of two who died in a plane crash this weekend in Darlington.

Benjamin Corbet, 21, of Franklin, and Kristen Green, 28, of Swisher, Iowa, died after a plane from Indianapolis flight school Lift Academy crashed on Sunday, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

The single-engine plane went down about 10:20 a.m. in a field near the intersection of State Road 47 and County Road 800 East in Montgomery County.

The plane left the academy roughly 30 miles away about 10 a.m., according to Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Tammy Jones.

Corbet and Green were the only people aboard the plane, and both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police said.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic accident and the loss of our team members,” Lift Academy spokesperson Jon Austin said in an email.

State police turned over the investigation into what caused the crash to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. That investigation is ongoing, Indiana State Police spokesperson Sgt. Jeremy Piers said.
