Golf outing to aid military families

Helping Hands For Freedom, a nonprofit founded by Shelby County resident and retired Army staff sergeant Patrick Shannon, a two-time Purple Heart recipient, is seeking golfers for its annual golf outing.

This year’s event is July 11 at Valle Vista Golf Club in Greenwood and features golf, free beer and soda, dinner and awards. The entry fee is $100 per golfer or $360 for a foursome.

Helping Hands for Freedom provides emergency financial assistance through donated funds to help military and Gold Star families that have lost a loved one or are suffering with injuries from combat, including PTSD, TBI and moral injuries.
