INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA
James P. “Phil” Hawkins, 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 4, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Phil was born on April 8, 1933 in Sikeston, Missouri to the late John and Lotus (Weeks) Hawkins.
Phil was blessed to have been married to two wonderful ladies. He married Emily Jean (Austin) Hawkins with whom he had 6 children. Emily went home to be with the Lord in August 1986. God then brought the late Florence “Flo” Agnes (Hill) Cast Hawkins into his life and they too had a wonderful marriage. In total he was married 64+ years!
Phil worked as a truck driver for several companies and pastored several churches in his lifetime. He Loved the Lord and had a strong, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He loved his entire family, was a good father, husband, grandpa, and brother.
Phil is survived by his four children, Denise (James) Roberson of Indianapolis, IN, Anita Hawkins of North Carolina, Phillip (Darlene) Hawkins of Indianapolis, IN, and Melissa Hawkins of Plainfield, IN; his fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Mary Louise Weaver of Leeds, AL and Imogene Sweniea of Waynesboro, TN.
Phil was preceded in death by both of his wives, Emily and Flo; his sons, Timothy and Dennis Hawkins; his parents, John and Lotus Hawkins; his brother, Robert Hawkins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 12:00pm at Greenwood Bible Baptist Church in Greenwood, Indiana with visitation from 10:00am until the funeral hour. Phil will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
