Robert Mitchell

Robert D. Mitchell, 86, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021. He was a resident of Franklin, and a former resident of Indianapolis.

He was born July 26, 1934 in Indianapolis to the late Cecil and Goldie (Gowan) Mitchell. Survivors include a sister, Barbara Bechman of Franklin; daughters Debra (Christopher) Dearinger of Roy, WA, Robin (Wayne) Wilson of Greenwood, Kelly King of Largo, FL; son Robert S. Mitchell of Carmel; five grandsons; and several nephews, nieces and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mona Mitchell; sisters Dorothy Hosier and Ruth Bostian; brother Lawrence “Rudy” Mitchell; and daughter Nancy Mitchell.

He was a graduate of Ball State and held a Master’s Degree from Indiana University. His teaching career spanned 1955-1995 with Indianapolis Public Schools and Perry Township (6th grade at Clinton Young Elementary, and 7th-8th-grade math at Southport and Meridian Middle Schools). He was a Greyhound bus driver for several years and retired on the road, living in a motor home for 15 years.

He was raised in the Indiana Masonic Home and returned there to independent living in 2011. He was a Mason for 65 years and belonged to the Southport Lodge No. 270 F&AM.

Masonic Funeral Services for Robert will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 6:15 p.m. at Norman F. Chance Funeral Home (504 National Avenue. Indianapolis) with calling from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.
