Council OKs rezone for speculative warehouses

Two prospective speculative warehouses in Greenwood’s Southtech Business Park cleared a hurdle Wednesday.

The Greenwood City Council voted in favor of rezoning a 20-acre property located at the Main Street and Graham Road intersection.

Becknell Industrial, who has already built five other buildings surrounding the prospective warehouses, requested the rezone due to changes that resulted from the adoption of the city’s Unified Development Ordinance in 2020.

Becknell’s plans were initially approved in 2019, and the land was rezoned to industrial large from commercial, according to city documents.

However, with the passage of the UDO, the land was rezoned to industrial medium.

The buildings would be 157,825 square feet and 170,500 square feet, city documents show.
