Stephen Otis Jones

INDIANAPOLIS

Stephen Otis Jones, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Manor Care Health Services, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Steve was born in Columbia City, Indiana on Sunday, August 6, 1939, the only child of Stephen and Gretchen Jones. He attended Howe Military School in northern Indiana in his teen years. He later attended Indiana University and, after receiving his degree, spent most of his adult years working as a Physical Therapist. After serving in the United States Navy he relocated to Florida, working there for several years before returning home to Indiana to care for his aging parents. He attended local Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in the Indianapolis area.

Although Steve never married, he enjoyed a rich life. He had a passion for classic cars, especially Duesenbergs. He often attended the famous Auburn Car Auction and also enjoyed attending events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. he would talk cars with anyone he met. Steve also gave of himself to his community. As a lover of classical music, he volunteered as an Usher at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He was also active in the local Rotary Club. He was very disciplined with his lifestyle. He always made sure he ate healthy and was known for taking walks in his neighborhood. He enjoyed a special close relationship with his neighbor, Ray. he would travel to Kentucky and Illinois during the holiday season to spend time with his two cousins, Ron Holsapple and Phil Leininger, and their families, all of whom survive him.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenhill Cemetery, 465 E. Ellsworth St., Columbia City, Indiana, where Steve will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
