Damon E. ‘Gene’ Phillips

Damon E. “Gene” Phillips, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle entered into eternal rest at the age of 88 on July 21, 2021. A resident of Bargersville he was born on April 21, 1933 in Benedict, Virginia to the late George Leon and Annie Catherine (Smith) Phillips.

He was a member of Southport Church of the Nazarene, Decater Township Lions Club, Mended Hearts and Helping Hearts Clubs.

He worked at National Starch and Chemical Company for 36 years, retiring in 1996.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and playing Euchre.

Damon leaves behind to treasure his memory, his three children, Brenda Malott (David Fikes), Damon Phillips (Mary), and John Phillips; seven grandchildren, Carrie, Stacey, Jennifer, Megan, David, Chris and Beth; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Celia Conner and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Clara K. (Holcomb) Phillips and five siblings, Ethel Salyers, Juanita Cooper, Barbara Mitchell, Clarence and Dennis Phillips.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Southport Church of the Nazarene, 920 E. Southport Road, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, at the church, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest next to Clara at Mt. Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southport Church of the Nazarene.
