A partnership between Greenwood and a local community college will provide free education to some who are interested in the trades.

The partnership between Greenwood and Ivy Tech Community College will allow residents interested in machine tool technology, supply chain management/logistics or information technology support to earn certifications in the fields this fall.

The programs, at Ivy Tech’s Franklin campus, were made possible by funding the city received from the federal Community Development Block Grant program and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, according to Ivy Tech.

Due to the nature of the grant, there are income limitations, said Stephanie Amos, Ivy Tech’s vice chancellor for Johnson and Shelby counties.

Those people who do not qualify under the block grant could be eligible for other funding opportunities, such as the Workforce Ready Grant, or other federal or state aid, she said.

The deadline for residents to apply to the certification programs is Aug. 6, and classes will begin Aug. 18.

Interested residents can email Ivy Tech at [email protected] or contact Robbie King at [email protected] or call (317) 916-6304.
