Prosecutors charged a Greenwood man after he was accused of assaulting two people in front of a toddler.

Dewan Singh Dhanoa, 29, is charged with three counts of domestic battery, including two Level 6 felonies and a Class A misdemeanor. If convicted on all three charges, Dhanoa could face up to six years in jail.

Dhanoa had come home heavily intoxicated, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Johnson County Circuit Court.

A victim told police Dhanoa had entered her bedroom where she and a child were sleeping and began yelling at her. Dhanoa then physically assaulted her, according to court documents.

Another person stepped in to try to help, and Dhanoa then assaulted that person. Both assaults happened in front of the child, court documents show.

Dhanoa told police he was physically attacked and never touched anyone, but would not provide any additional information, according to court documents.

He was given a preliminary breathalyzer test and had a BrAC of .197, more than two-times the legal limit, court documents said.

Dhanoa has a lengthy criminal history battery, according to online court records.

He was charged with battery, a Class A misdemeanor, in 2017, and was sentenced to a year in jail. He served two days in jail and the remainder of his sentence on probation, court documents show.

Dhanoa was released Thursday on a $1,200 cash bond. The prosecutor’s office has requested the bond be increased due to two other pending criminal cases, said Joe Villanueva, prosecutor.

An initial hearing is set for Aug. 12.
