Officers arrested a Bloomington woman on a high-level drug dealing charge after they found drugs on her during a traffic stop and at the jail.

Anne M. Haines, 45, was arrested on a methamphetamine dealing charge, a Level 2 felony. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, officers noticed Haines’s car parked at a gas station near the intersection of State Road 135 and State Road 252 in Trafalgar, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

When Haines left the gas station, officers followed the car. They initiated a traffic stop after Haines committed two traffic violations, including failure to signal, according to the report.

A K-9 did a walkaround of the vehicle and indicated there were drugs inside. Officers asked Haines to step out of the vehicle and told her the K-9 indicated there may be drugs inside. She said there were not, the report said.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a bag with a safe inside in the back passenger floorboard, and used a key on Haines’s car keys to open it. Inside, officers found about 115 grams of a crystal substance that field tested positive for meth. They also found small bags that were tied off, commonly used in the sale of meth, according to the report.

Haines initially said she knew nothing about the safe or drugs, but eventually admitted it was hers, the report said.

She told officers she did not typically sell meth, but needed the money to relocate to Florida. She said she used a stimulus check to buy $1,300 worth of meth, which she intended to sell to four customers, according to the report.

Haines was taken to the Johnson County jail. In her pants, jail staff found a pill bottle with the label torn off. The pill bottle contained two baggies of narcotics. They also found a glass smoking device, the report said.

She is held at the jail on $30,000 bond.

Haines has a history of drug dealing. In 2013, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit dealing in a schedule II controlled substance in Brown County Circuit Court. She was sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison. She was released in June 2020, according to online court records.
