Police arrested a Beech Grove woman who they say had cocaine and other drugs, repeatedly lied about who she was and was driving with a suspended license.

Lynn Cochran, 31, was arrested Friday on five charges, including possession of cocaine, a level 3 felony. She was also arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, giving a false identity statement, possessing synthetic urine and driving with a suspended license, all misdemeanors. The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

An officer on patrol on U.S. 31 noticed Cochran’s vehicle braking heavily. She then cut across two lanes of traffic to enter the parking lot of a gas station in the 1600 block of U.S. 31, Greenwood, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.

When police walked up to Cochran’s car window, she began acting nervously. When they asked her to identify herself, she gave a fake name and said she did not have a valid driver’s license, according to the report.

Police asked Cochran to exit her vehicle and sit in the passenger seat of the police car while her information was verified. She said she was going to meet her sister. When police asked what her sister’s name was, she said that her sister’s name was the name she previously said was hers, the report said.

When police asked Cochran what her name was, she gave another fake name and refused to answer additional questions. When she was informed it was a crime to not identify yourself to police, she said she was probably going to jail anyway. She also said the second name she gave police was fake, and she had active warrants in Marion County, according to the report.

Once Cochran gave them her actual name, they looked up her information and discovered her license was suspended, the report said.

When police searched Cochran’s car, they found four pill bottles filled with a white powder that field tested positive for cocaine. They also found synthetic urine, a license belonging to Cochran’s sister, and an Ohio trailer license plate, according to the report.

Cochran told police the items found in the car belonged to her sister. When asked if she had anything on her, she told them she had prescribed Xanax in her bra, which was a lie, police said. The drug is a level IV controlled substance, the report said.

Cochran was taken to the Johnson County jail where she was put on a 72-hour hold. Her bond was set at $20,600.
