A Greenwood lumber warehouse has reopened more than a year after a large fire ripped through it.

Last June, a fire destroyed one of 84 Lumber’s warehouses on its 6.8-acre property at 484 E. Worthsville Road, causing an estimated $1.5 million in damage.

The fire was contained to the main building, the back of which bore the brunt of the fire damage. The rest of the building had smoke and water damage. The lumber yard and sheds located on the property were spared from the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, but arson was ruled out by investigators. There weren’t any injuries as the fire occurred when no employees were inside.

84 Lumber is a Pennsylvania-based lumber and building materials supplier with 250 locations across the country. The Greenwood location consisted of two large warehouses full of materials at the time, and had been a part of the community since 1970.

The newly rebuilt warehouse reopened earlier this month and has a similar footprint as the previous building, with some updates, according to an 84 Lumber news release.

The Greenwood location employs 34 people, with another five to be added by the end of the year, according to the news release.

During the period between the fire and the warehouse reopening, the store did not close. It served customers through a temporary office trailer and an 84 Lumber truss plant facility in Franklin, the news release said.

84 Lumber Area Manager Kevin Means thanked local fire departments and first responders who worked to put out the fire last year.

“The community has been fantastic, and we’re looking forward to continuing to serve them for many more years,” Means said.
