Three more locals advance to girls golf regionals

Greenwood’s Maura Guilfoy watches her tee shot on the ninth hole during Monday’s sectional at Hawk’s Tail.

Staff Reports

The wet and sloppy weather at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield couldn’t put a damper on Greenwood golfers Maura Guilfoy and Emma Baker on Monday.

Though the Woodmen fell one place short of advancing out of the New Palestine Sectional as a team, Guilfoy and Baker both earned individual spots at Saturday’s Lapel Regional. Guilfoy made it comfortably with an 80, easily the best score on a non-advancing team, while Baker grabbed the last qualifying berth with a 95.

Greenwood, which also got a 110 from Madison Shaffer and a 115 from Celia Stanley, finished fourth in the team standings with a total of 400.

Greenwood Christian was eighth with a 488; Taylor Harris paced the Cougars with a 105.

Guilfoy, a senior, was a state qualifier last season. Baker, a sophomore, will be making her first regional appearance.

Meanwhile, in the Bloomington North Sectional at Cascades, Indian Creek’s Hannah Emenhiser punched her own individual regional ticket by shooting an 88. This marks the second straight year that the junior has advanced, both times with the same score. Emenhiser will play in the Washington Regional on Saturday at Country Oaks.

The Braves placed seventh as a team on Monday with a total of 411. Ciara Green was close behind Emenhiser with a 92. Edinburgh, which was ninth at 474, was led by Izzy Richardson’s 106.

The Center Grove and Franklin teams, along with Whiteland senior Tara Watson, will compete in the Roncalli Regional at Smock on Friday.
