Edinburgh schools changes contact tracing guidelines

As of Tuesday, students at Edinburgh schools who are within six feet of a person who tests positive for COVID-19 will be considered close contacts.

Edinburgh school officials will now use a six-foot radius to determine if students are close contacts, an increase from the previous three-foot protocol, based on updated health department guidance and state requirements.

The school board unanimously approved the change during its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.

Contact tracing protocols are different for schools without a mask mandate. Edinburgh and Indian Creek schools are the only two districts in Johnson County where students are not required to wear masks during the school day.

So far this school year, there have been 23 COVID-19 cases at Edinburgh schools, according to school data.
