A Greenwood man who was struck by a car earlier this month has died as a result of his injuries.
Michael D. Sherrow II, 45, died Sunday at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
About 6:45 a.m. Sept. 18, a Mitsubishi Outlander struck Sherrow, who was walking along County Line Road in front of Community Hospital South, according to a Greenwood Police Department report.
The driver of the vehicle, a 59-year-old Greenwood woman, told police it was an accident. She wasn’t sure where Sherrow was standing in the lane because it happened so fast.
When first responders arrived, Sherrow was unconscious and laying in the left lane of eastbound County Line Road, just east of Tree Top Lane. Medical personnel on the scene advised the pedestrian had a skull fracture, left arm fracture and leg fracture. He was taken to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, according to the report.
Sherrow remained at the hospital in critical condition for eight days. He was on a ventilator due to a traumatic brain injury and could not communicate, the report said.
The driver who struck Sherrow was given a portable breathalyzer test at the scene, and was not under the influence of alcohol. A drug test was pending Tuesday, according to the report.
