A construction worker is stable after becoming trapped in a 10-foot trench at a construction site in a Bargersville subdivision.

The Bargersville Community Fire Department was called about 1:15 p.m. Friday to the construction site in the 4000 block of Saddle Club South Parkway to rescue a construction worker who was immobilized and injured while stuck in a trench.

The worker had been working inside a steel trench box 10 feet below ground level when he became trapped by a concrete pipe, which fell into his work area. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the worker had freed himself but was in pain and unable to move, according to a press release from the Bargersville fire department.

Firefighters had to load rescue equipment onto a payloader to get to the scene of the accident due to its remote location. The rescue crew used a rescue basket and low-angle rope rescue system to pull the man to safety, the news release said.

The worker was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital via LifeLine helicopter in stable condition.
