Douglas Earl Wood, 82, of Franklin, IN passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at Otterbein Franklin Seniorlife Community in Franklin, IN. He was born May 23, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to Earl Joseph Wood and Madeline Mable (McKay) Wood. He was a 1963 graduate of Michigan State University with a B.S. Degree in accounting. He was initiated in to the PHI DELTA THETA Fraternity in 1960. He served in the United States Army Reserves in 1963 having been Honorably Discharged in 1969.

He was an accountant for Price Waterhouse and worked for Barcy-Nicholson Company in Detroit, MI. Doug once owned “The Canopy” landmark restaurant in Brighton, MI and also held a Florida real estate license. He was past president of Michigan Golf Car (Club Car). Doug was an avid golfer winning many tournaments throughout the years and was even an acquaintance of golf pro Jack Nicklaus.

He married Sharon (Franklin) Onnenga Wood on December 4, 2013, she survives and is a resident of Franklin, IN, two sons Andy Wood and Craig Wood, stepchildren Scott R. Onnenga of San Antonio, TX, Kathy Fairchild (Mel) of Martinsville, IN, Suzette Bruening (Matt) of Dallas, TX and Beth Myers (Rob) of Boise, ID, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a sister Carolyn Matthes of Bloomfield, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Reverend Bert Kite will conduct a memorial service on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 3PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed for family and friends can connect at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/douglas-wood. Inurnment will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, MI.
