Two arrested after chase in stolen car

Hardesty

An early morning car chase Sunday through Bargersville culminated in two arrests and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Charles Hardesty, 21, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Kayley R. Majko, 27, of Indianapolis, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, heroin, a syringe and paraphernalia.

The Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office will decide what, if any, charges to file.

The driver, later identified as Hardesty, failed to stop when a sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull him over near State Road 144 and Overlook Drive just after 3:30 a.m., according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

The deputy tried to initiate the traffic stop because the green Honda CRV he was driving had the same license plate number as one that was reported stolen out of Marion County, according to the report.

Hardesty disregarded the deputy’s lights and sirens and sped up. He drove through several yards before heading south, crossing an alley and entering the road again on Plummer Avenue, the report says.

The vehicle turned south on Indiana Street, east on Harriman Avenue and southeast on State Road 144 while speeding and disregarding stop signs along the way, according to the report.

Majko

The vehicle continued on State Road 144 until it ran off the road and into a ditch at the construction site for the roundabout at State Road 144 and Centerline Road. Hardesty continued to run away on foot, while Majko remained in the vehicle and was placed under arrest, the report says.

A K-9 officer and his handler pursued Hardesty a short distance and ordered him to stop at the edge of a cornfield. Hardesty complied and was placed under arrest, according to the report.

Police searched the vehicle and found several drugs and other items, including heroin, marijuana, mail and ID cards belonging to different people, and a catalytic converter, the report says.

A sheriff’s deputy fractured their ankle during the pursuit and was transported to Franciscan Health Indianapolis for treatment, according to the report.

Hardesty and Majko had warrants out for their arrest, according to online court records.

Hardesty had four warrants, including one out of Johnson County for a false informing charge, and three out of Marion County for charges of resisting law enforcement, drug possession and leaving the scene of an accident, court records show.

Majko had a warrant out of Hendricks County for charges of theft and identify deception, according to online court records.

Both were taken to the Johnson County jail where they remain.
